Hi everybody, let me introduce you a great illustrator, Jessica from Belgium:
Who are you?
My name is Jessica Maertens, I'm an illustrator, my shop is called BeautyOnTheFire.
I finished my school in the Brussel Art Academy and sometimes when I really need to change my mind or to earn more, I work in some shop as a seller, it depends the moment.
Where do you live?
I live in the capital city of Belgium in an appartement. But I plan in the future to move out in London or somewhere else in England, I don't know yet.
When did you start making things?
I've drewn as far back as I can remember. It's inside of my blood and it would be very difficult to do differently.
What does inspire you?
I inspire with everything around me, i need to walk in the street or to look at my fairytaile books and i get some idea. I also do a lot of research to find some interesting artists in the net.
What do you create?
The most of my time I paint and I sell my print on the net. But I project to make magnets, buttons and pocket mirrors too.
Whish materials do you use?
I use watercolour, acrylic, colour pencils, pencils...on wood, canvas, paper... Everything you can find for painting. Actually now I use photoshop on my original illustration and then i colored them digitally.

I'm Gloria di Blasi, I love everything creative and I do make art in different ways: I'm a soprano singer, I love photography, graphic, cooking (and eating!) and... take care of Scacco alle Regine!

I'm lucky enough to leave in charming small village called Brezzo di Bedero near the Lake Maggiore.

When did you start making things? - Quando hai iniziato a creare oggetti con le tue mani?
I've always been making things with my hands... I couldn't live differently. I first had the idea of opening Scacco alle Regine a years ago, but the project came to reality a couple of month ago.
Ho iniziato a creare con le mie mani.. da sempre.. non riesco a non avere la soddisfazione di produrre qualcosa di 'fatto da me'. Nello specifico Scacco alle Regine è un'idea nata circa un anno fa, ma di cui solo da pochi mesi mi sto occupando con più consapevolezza e intenzione.
What does inspire you? - Quali sono le tue fonti di ispirazione?
Colors, nature, shapes, fashion, and of course artists. I also do a lot of research on what is cool all over the world.
Le mie fonti di ispirazione sono varie: i colori, la natura, le forme, la moda, i grandi personaggi che hanno fatto storia nelle diverse forme d'arte e faccio molta ricerca sulle tendenze degli altri Stati.
What do you create? - Che cosa crei?
I mostly make jewlery and hair accessories (at this time!).

Which materials do you use? - Quali materiali utilizzi?
I use plastic, resin, glass, crystal, metal, semiprecious stones, paper, felt, leather, velvet, satin, organza, fabric, wood, ceramic... nearly everything!

Time flies
house
Time flies... that's exactly how I feel. In the past month my life has completely changed: a new house with the love of my life, a new city, two new jobs... and no time for updating the blog and shop. I'll do my best in the next few weeks, a sneak peek of the house and an interview to a great italian jewelry artist are coming up!
